Amazing health benefits-Green Tea

Tea is the most consumed drink in the world after water. Green tea is a ‘non-fermented’ tea, and contains more catechins, than black tea or oolong tea. Green tea is derived from the leaves of the plant camellia sinensis

Manufacturing of green tea:

Green tea is made by briefly steaming the just harvested leaves, rendering them soft and pliable and preventing them from fermenting or changing color. After steaming, the leaves are rolled, then spread out and “fired” (dried with hot air or pan-fried in a wok) until they are crisp. The resulting greenish-yellow tea has a green, slightly astringent flavor close to the taste of the fresh leaf.

Why Green Tea?

Green tea has been originating in China but widely used throughout Asia. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. As a result, green tea retains maximum amount of antioxidants and poly-phenols.

Amazing health benefits:

Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — benefits that you may not have been aware of
  1. Weight Loss:Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation.
  2. Diabetes: Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage.
  3. Heart Disease: green tea catechins inhibit the enzymes involved in the production of free radicals in the endothelial lining of the arteries. By protecting the endothelium from free radical damage, green tea catechins help prevents the development of cardiovascular disease.
  4. Cancer:It can reduce the risk of cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them. EGCG’s (epigallocatechin-3-gallate) protective antioxidant effects against several carcinogens were found to be 120% stronger than those of vitamin C.
  5. Cholesterol:Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.
  6. Depression:L-Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is the substances that provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers.
  7. Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial:Tea catechins are strong anti-bacterial and anti-viral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases.
  8. Skincare:Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging; this is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Green tea acts at the cellular level & reduces inflammation.
  9. Oral health: Streptococcus mutans is mainly responsible for causing dental caries. Green tea has proved to have anti-Streptococcus mutans activity.
